Timorous

Fullness manifests into life
Expansion, contraction
Aching remains
Still and empty

Oh to only breathe shallow breath
Stirring only the faintest light
Eternal dusk

  1. You and I are kindred spirits, Alisha.
    This poem gets me.

(And I love the Emerson quote you posted. So true, so true...)

  2. Hi-

My that is a dark and powerful writing. I first thought of childbirth. When my child was no longer within and I felt a stillness after the expansion and contraction. I am sure this has a very different meaning. ?? Certainly a thought provoker.

    Love Gail

  3. Val-Thanks. I love the emerson quote too.

Gail-it is dark. It is actually a poem about fear. A poem about being afraid of my own needs.
It is about the discomfort of trying to live either fully or not at all and how so many of us can hide in the middle. In the place of the dusk.

Thanks to you both for really reading it.

  4. If you haven't the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you.
    - T.S. Elliot

    Does this ring true?

  5. Val-it does ring so true! Sometimes I'm not sure I am living my life on my own terms, nor am I sure that I want to. Other times I feel like the king of my world intentional in all that I do.

Have you read the book "Three cups of tea" by Greg Mortenson? He did an Outward Bound event for us in Denver and I got to meet him. I couldn't tell if he meant to change the world or if these were the terms he was offered when he simply tried to help one community. I began to wonder about the difference between moral conviction, action, inaction and intention.

If you haven't read the book, I'll loan you my copy...

Thanks for blogging along side me and for your thoughtful comments.

    Totally.

I haven't read Greg's book yet, but it's on my short list. Mickey seemed pretty pumped about the meeting/event... It's really cool you all got to hang out with him!
